Mary Shelley Essay Example for Free
Mary Shelley Essay I dont think the reader feels sorry for Victor because if he hadnt have rejected the monster in the first place he wouldnt have been in that situation. In the era the book was written, people were beginning to question Gods existence. Should God be the only creator of life? Should the power of science be able to create people? We found out the answer to this in Frankenstein. Victor tried to create the monster using scientific knowledge and succeeded. However, the end result of the monster was horrific. He was lonely, had no friends, and resorted to killing people. This proves science can not create life and make them fit into the human race. Only God can achieve this and thats the way it should stay. I think the reader sympathizes for the monster because the monster didnt choose to live, Victor did it for him and he only needed somebody to love. I collected the instruments of life around me that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. This quote shows he was searching for something to bring the monster to life, and that it was his decision to do this. At different stages in the story, Victor and the monster are both altruistic and egotistic. To start with, Victor is very altruistic. Whilst developing the monster he was very focused and in some way addicted to his creation. He became increasingly tired and unhealthy as he wasnt looking after himself properly. Sometimes I grew alarmed at the wreck I perceived. This shows he didnt even realise how he was treating himself, and he was alarmed when he realised. This proves he started off to be very altruistic, thinking of others before himself. At the same time he could be egotistic. He didnt think of the monsters feelings, and just focused on achieving his goal, not thinking of the consequences there were to come. Victor claims he was doing it to be useful to my fellow beings. His mother actually sparked the idea and fame and fortune drove him. So he ended up doing it for himself. The monster starts off to be altruistic as he befriends the family and helps them and generally doesnt focus on just himself. He makes adult suggestions unlike Victor who has stubborn childish responses. Victor could have offered friendship and love, but does the complete opposite making him extremely egotistic. However as the story continues it all changes dramatically and Victor and the monster almost swap places. Eager to love and to be loved, the creature is not born evil. Society makes the monster become egotistical. As society keeps on rejecting him, he becomes more and more egotistic and doesnt really care what anyone else thinks anymore. The monster wanted what Frankenstein and so many other humans had and took for granted a place to belong. Loneliness and isolation motivated the monster to turn to destruction. However, this was through no fault of his own. Victor was the first one to reject him therefore, its mainly his fault. When this starts to happen, I think the reader feels sorry for the monster, as he had no other choice but to do this, and become egotistic. On the other hand, Victor becomes more altruistic and begins to think of others. When the monster starts to kill people close to him, I think he realises he needs to do something. Victor does decide to make the creature a bride which was very altruistic, but turns against the idea. Elizabeth, Victor Frankensteins foster sister, plays a crucial part of Frankenstein. Since Victors mother died, Elizabeth played the mother role and was adored. Everyone loved Elizabeth. At many points in the story Victor is saved by the love of Elizabeth. On Frankensteins wedding day, his creature, the monster kills Elizabeth. Her beauty and innocence are greatly emphasized which takes away a lot of sympathy for the monster. When Frankensteins father knows that she was killed, he dies a few days later. What then became of me? I know not; I lost sensation, and chains and darkness were the only objects that pressed upon me. This shows Victor doesnt want to live anymore and doesnt take any notice of the world around him. He didnt have anything to live for, except to get revenge on the monster hed created. How I have lived I hardly know; many times have I stretched my failing limbs upon the sandy plain and prayed for death. But revenge kept me alive. So Victor decides to find the monster and searches for him. He tracks the monster ever northwards into the ice. He then freezes to death and dies, and when the monster finds this out he kills himself. At this point you sympathize for mainly Victor as he never got his revenge but also the monster, as he had such a horrific, lonely life. To conclude there are many different times in which the reader feels antipathy and mainly sympathy for the monster in Frankenstein, which shows he wasnt treated well at all.

Personal sellingâ⬠¦.. Vodafone promote its product by using personal selling method of marketing. Employees of Vodafone communicate with customer to convince to buy product or service.vodafone regular conduct sales meeting in stores that how to satisfy to customer by giving good service or product. We can know about products by call to customer care of Vodafone which is 24 hours for help to its customers and also can know about products or services .it can be seen in Auckland cities salesmen of Vodafone show samples of products to attract to customer for example information about new plans ,showing new mobile phones of Vodafone company .i think it is most effective way to promotion because seller come to know about seeks and wants of buyer and company can have feedback through this idea. Direct marketingâ⬠¦.. Vodafone use both way of direct marketing like face to face or indirect communication through television ,radio, newspaper.vodafone employees go to door to door and sell their product .Vodafone use mail or letters to target audience they putt browser in letter box however sometime it is junk mail but company has opportunity to get fast response from customers.vodafone do street advertisement for example on queen street of Auckland.vodafone gives preference to such way specially door to door because they are successful to sell their product or service. Publicity â⬠¦ Vodafone is such company which is one of most popular in new Zealand so media has special observation on Vodafone activities which helps to Vodafone make more attract or noticeable of customers .Articles and newspaper give information of companies future products or services and it also focus on policies ,actions of company which give information about company to its customers Internet marketingâ⬠¦. Vodafone has its own website which has every thing whatever customer want to know .second way of promotion is face book or twitter Vodafone nz has pages on both which is also a way to promote .company also send mail to its target audience those who log in companys site. Advantages and disadvantages of used promotional tools Advantages Advertisements are most successful way to promote any product. Advertisement has both audio and video effects if it is shown on television which helps to consumer to analysis that product by seeing like we can see size of product,figtures ,shape ect.Advertisement has great access to people because almost everyone watch television, listen radio, and read newspaper or magazines .advertisements on television specially send actual message to customer with right and unique way because we can watch and listen so consumer get message whatever company want to send to its consumer. Advertisements attract to people because some celebrity indorse particular product for example David backham is brand ambassador of Vodafone company for world wide. Personal selling brings customer to company by convincing them. Salesman makes understand to customer about product and service so salesman get response on the spot. Communication becomes stronger due to this way of promotion. Direct marketing is cheap way of promotion like sending mail to customers. Internet marketing which can be define one of most accessible way to reach to consumers .Today heaps of product are launched by different companies in the whole world so internet becomes a way to promote that product or service in the world.Throught internet customer can be targeted for example if any company make product for younger people then company can promote by social sites like facebook,orkut ect. Disadvantages Advertisements is costly function of promotion generally if company spend money on ads for promotion then cost of per item will increase and company covered this cost by increasing price of product. Some advertisements mislead to customers which ads are cleverly made by companies to create misleading impression of products .it has happened with Vodafone so Vodafone had to pay fine for such advertisement .company has to spend huge amount of money to make an video advertisement for example David Backham charge huge money to indorse of one advertisement. Direct marketing can irritate to consumer because sometime consumer are not ready to face salesman .door to door promotion idea consume more time than other way of promotions. Internet marketing has also some disadvantages because customer cannot experience product before buying for example if anybody purchase Vodafone companies cell phone then customer cannot experience features ,apps ect .Internet promotion has other big fault that it is not secure mostly internet has security reasons. Conclusions â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.at the end I would like say that promotion tools which are used by Vodafone new Zealand are effective because due to such tools Vodafone is most popular company in new Zealand as well as in whole world. Every thing has pros and cons so promotional tools of Vodafone also have these things.

ATM Networks :: Essays Papers
ATM Networks Traditional local area networks, such as Ethernet and Token Ring, use a connectionless or unreliable approach when sending information across the network. Each client is connected to the network by an adapter card, which has a driver, and above that driver is a protocol driver, such as TCP/IP. The protocol driver bundles information into frames of varying size, and gives each bundle an appropriate header. Then, when the wire is available, the data packets are shipped off to be individually routed through the maze of hardware and software. Each packet in a series of packets could conceivably take a different route to reach the same destination. Traditional LAN technologies do not guarantee that data will arrive on time or in the proper order. Ethernet and Token Ring can detect errors, but they provide no service guarantees and are not responsible for recovery from missing or corrupted data packets. Because they are joined by a common medium, each station on the traditional LAN sees the packets of data put on the wire by each of the others, regardless of whether the packet is passed sequentially from one station to the next (as in a ring topology) or broadcast to all stations simultaneously (as with Ethernet). Each station has an adapter card, which processes the packet and examines the destination address. If the address applies to that machine, the adapter does a hardware interrupt and accepts the packet. Because a traditional LAN is connectionless, it cannot provide guarantees or similar features. For example, it cannot determine the status of the target machine. It cannot ensure that bandwidth will be available throughout the transmission. Unanticipated bottlenecks are common, which can hinder a traditional LANââ¬â¢s ability to support time-sensitive applications such as video-on-demand or voice traffic. Traditional LANs can use upper-level protocol drivers are to do such things as verify packet arrival (retransmitting, if necessary), partition big messages into smaller ones, use time stamps for synchronization, and so forth. However, these services add time to the transmission, and none of them provide end-to-end quality of service guarantees. ATM, on the other hand, is connection-oriented. An ATM end point establishes a path (a virtual circuit, or VC) to the destination end point prior to sending any data out on the network. It then sends a series of same-size packets (called cells) along this path towards the destination. Note that while establishing the connection, the ATM end point also negotiates a quality of service (QoS) contract for the transmission.

Inclusion Effective or Ineffective Essay -- Teaching Public Education
Inclusion Effective or Ineffective Since the 1980's more and more school have began to practice the technique of inclusion in their classrooms. Inclusion is a term which expresses commitment to educate each child to the maximum extent appropriate, in the classroom he or she would otherwise attend.( Education Resources. "Special Education" Inclusion. "www.weac.org/resource/june96/speced.htm. Nov 15, 1998).Most schools began this process by main streaming. Main streaming is usually refers to the selective placement of special education students in one or more "regular" education classes.(Education Resources...)For example a student with a learning disabilities would have some classes in the "regular"classroom and other classes would be segregated. The idea is that eventually they would be able to be completely included in the "regular"class. There is one more term that will be helpful in the understanding of this paper and that is full inclusion. Full inclusion means that all students, no matter what their handicap, will be in a "regular"classroom full time.( Education Resources...) The general difference between main streaming and inclusion is that people in favor of main streaming believe that a child with disabilities first belongs in the special education environment and that the child must earn his or her way into the "regular" education environment. Those who support inclusion believe that the child always should begin in the "regular" environm...
Sri Lanka - Light at the End of the Tunnel? Essay -- Politics Governme
Sri Lanka - Light at the End of the Tunnel? The Sunday, March 3, 2002 issue of ââ¬Å"The New York Timesâ⬠featured an article by Barbara Crossette, ââ¬Å"The War on Terror Points a Country Toward Peace. The second sentence of this article stated: "A week ago, the government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, one of Asia's most ruthless and totalitarian rebel movements, agreed to a firm cease-fire, with the promise of peace talks to come".[1] But are the LTTE planning on keeping their promises this time? Is Sri Lanka's 20 year old struggle finally coming to its end? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? The history of the conflict extends into colonial times, when Sri Lanka was a formal colony of Great Britain. Even then ââ¬Å"politics were already split along rigid ethnic linesâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ [2] Sri Lanka is populated by two ethnic groups, the Tamils and the Sinhalese. The Tamils constitute only 15% of the total population in Sri Lanka. But, according to Stuart Bell from National Post, the Sinhalese still feel as a ââ¬Å"minority within the wider regionâ⬠[3], because of Sri Lankaââ¬â¢s geographic position, only 30 kilometers off the coast of Indiaââ¬â¢s Tamil Nadu. Another factor to be taken into consideration is that Sri Lanka is the only place in the world that the Sinhalese culture exists in. There is no question that the Sinhalese feel even more threatened because of that. Additional differences adding oil to the fire between the two groups are: language (Tamil vs. Sinhala); religion (mostly Hindu vs. Buddhist); history interpretations; moral superiority claims; question of the original inhibition of the island. The post-colonial government took the path of an extreme pro-Sinhalese mood, after coming into power on Februa... ...n the weapons inflow. The LTTE have also been loosing their legitimacy among their supporters. Secondly, the country itself, seems to also have grown extremely weary of the constant human and economic sacrifices. Both sides, it seems, canââ¬â¢t go on, and are very ready to compromise. And thirdly, the growing global no-tolerance atmosphere itself, as mentioned earlier, is playing an important role in taming the tigers this time. As ââ¬Å"The Hinduâ⬠asserts: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the post-September 11 world might prove an increasingly tough place even for groups that fight their battles within a defined geographical territory in remote corners of the globe, like the LTTE, to use terror as a strategy.â⬠[19] I think, that the combination of these three factors might result to be just the right mix to, finally, put an end to a 20-year long war in Sri Lanka. And the country will see the light.

Purpose and Time Management
When purpose is not defined, abuse/misuse is inevitable' life would be lived to the fullest potential if its purpose is well defined. It does not only stop at defining the purpose of your existence, it is way more than that, you have got to have a ââ¬Ëclear purpose'. A purpose driven life would definitely be an new of all eyes, such a life would affect and impart others positively and so also would be success personified.A life with a clear purpose would readily surmount challenges and turn them into gold mines, how you might want to ask? When you discover the purpose of your existence and stay glued to it, you have not only succeeded in winning your first battle in life, so also you have succeeded in separating yourself from the crowd, in that you know where your passion lies, you have discovered your potentials/ strengths/ capabilities and you would channel all you have got: your inner drive/ will power/ passion/ vision towards maximizing your strengths.Defining a clear purpose gets you only half way, you need stay within the confines of your purpose to get to the dream land, whereby oh can replicate success bearing in mind John Maxwell nugget- ââ¬Ë success without succession is a failure' .There are essential ingredients in staying aligned to the right path: focus would make you strong while weathering the storm of life because success comes at a price, good ideals will not make you lack encouragement while the struggle lasts because you are on a cause you believe in and it is a prize worth dying for, this in turn would make you resilient and you will never relent until you achieve your set goals. Time management is of most importance if you desire to leave your foot on the sand of time, you have got to get your priorities right, be assertive and do things as and when due.The only resource God has given all creatures in equal proportion is time knowing full well that we vary in potentials, motivation, encouragement to say but a few. If you maximize you r time to the fullest and see procrastination not Just as a thief of time but also as an enemy of destiny and progress, then you would not allow this vital resource escape from your grasp and management. Proper scheduling skills is important, coupled with adequate discipline, you will not allow events and circumstances to plan your time but vice versa will be the case, if and only if you have got the assassination that whatever takes your time, makes your life. Genius is 10% aspiration and 90% perspirationâ⬠. Time management requires discipline, focus, resilience, and it is painstaking, that I am not disputing, but with these inherent attributes, your equation of success is almost complete because the afore mentioned re core values of success and would help you up the ante of your accomplishment/ breakthrough/emergence/ victory by keying into this principle of management.Show me a man with adept time management skills and there you have got a man who can control all the other r esources required for success. A clear purpose plus proper time management will set you far above the crowd, time. Both run simultaneously, better put hand-in-hand and not independent of each other if ââ¬Ëawesome success' that would bless and change lives even after you are long gone is all you crave for.

John Taylor Gatto Against School Essay
When it comes to the traditional education, John Taylor Gattoââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Against Schoolâ⬠questions whether we really need the nine month, drawn out, traditional curriculum. Gatto goes on to name several successful people through history that were not products of a contemporary school system. When I think of Gattoââ¬â¢s theory of forced schooling, a friend of mine named John Smith who goes by the alias of Viper comes to mind. Viper is in his late 20ââ¬â¢s, lives in South Philadelphia, and has worked as a Roofer for the past 10 years. Viper went to a public school in South Philadelphia. Viper went to a school where said, ââ¬Å"It wasnââ¬â¢t easy. I was scrawny and white and we were poorer than the jigs that went to school wit us, so we caught alota shit.â⬠Viperââ¬â¢s school was extremely underfunded. ââ¬Å"Some days there would be trash laid out by the trash cans cause nobody would change the trash bags, the food was shit, and the bathroomsâ⬠¦forget i t.â⬠He would walk twelve blocks back to his house just to go to the bathroom. There were no extracurricular activities like book clubs and band and the school was rundown and decrepit. Eventually he started to miss classes regularly. He felt that the teachers did not care. Classes were extremely boring to him. He was actually approached by his biology teacher and told he could cut class everyday as long as he turned in his work and he would receive a D at the end of the year. He was not amused by the offer, he was not even interested in graduating anymore. ââ¬Å"I expected to be a laborer for the rest of my life so I felt like education was unimportant.â⬠Viperââ¬â¢s education started taking a back seat to work around his sophomore year of high school. He was the middle child in a family of four, all of whom have dropped out of high school and are laborers today. ââ¬Å"My parents made me get a job when I was thirteen, thatââ¬â¢s the way it was with all my brothers,â⬠says Viper. Eventually he started to make a decent amount of money and admits to being extremely naà ¯ve, saying ââ¬Å"Why the fuck was I gonna go ta school for eight more years if I was makinââ¬â¢ 25-30 thousand dollars a year. Do the math, instead of spendin 100 thousand dollars in college and waste my time in school I coulda made 200 thousand dollars by the time I was 24.â⬠One day Viper decided to make an appointment with a school counselor. He was hardly going to class, working every day when he was supposed to be in school, and partying every night and having fun. School was more of a social event. He was just going to school to see his friends and make plans for the weekend. When he told the school counselor that he was planning on dropping out the counselor stood up, looked him in the eye, extended his hand and said, ââ¬Å"Good Luck!â⬠ââ¬Å"The guy didnââ¬â¢t even give a shit!â⬠Viper said. By the time December came around of his sophomore year, he was a high school dropout. He was working everyday by that time already so he was not stagnant. He was still living with his parents. The fact that he dropped out was ok with them because he could ââ¬Å"contribute to the house,â⬠as his father put it. Viper eventually saved enough money to get his own place and now lives with his wife of three years and their two children who are two and five years of age. He said, ââ¬Å"I always thought I learned more out of school than in high school, but itââ¬â¢s not what my kids are gonna doâ⬠. He aspires to open his own roofing company one day. Although I do not agree with the path that Viper chose in life, he is happy and successful today. He is a great father and happily married. He does not drink anymore and devotes every second of his free time to his family. In a way he is almost a survivor to me. He is not well spoken or the brightest guy in the world, but he would d o anything in his power to help any person in a bind.
